Deadpool: Something I’ve always been wondering... why are at least HALF the multiverse’s greatest warriors all guys and gals still going through PUBERTY?!

Edge: The teenage superhero. Ever since the successes of the Amazing Spider-Man, these adolescent vigilantes – formerly written almost-exclusively as sidekicks – have since grown to populate a fairly large percentage of the superhero population. Even beyond Marvel and DC, there are many teenage heroes with their own unique set of powers, skills and abilities. And these two teenage supers have been taking head on the most unnatural of enemies, while juggling their dual lives as students...

Deadpool: Danny Phantom, the Ghost Halfa!

Edge: And Jake Long, the American Dragon!

Deadpool: He’s Wildgun-Edge, and I’m your lovable fourth-wall shattering Boomstick-for-the-day, Deadpool!

Edge: And it’s our job to analyze these two supernatural superheroes’ weapons, powers, armor and abilities to determine, once and for all, who would win... a DEATH BATTLE?

. . .

DANNY PHANTOM
Aliases: Danny Fenton, Ghost Boy/Child/Kid, Invis-o-Bill
Age: 14 (implied to be 15 at the end of the series, but unconfirmed)
Height: 5’4’’
Weight: 138lb
Species: Halfa (½ Human; ½ Ghost)
Occupation: High school student; Superhero
First appearance: Danny Phantom Episode 1 – “Mystery Meat” (2004)

FEATS
Defeated many powerful enemies through both wits and powers
Has defeated his evil self – the “Ultimate Enemy” – who possessed his powers and Vlad Plasmius’ combined
Managed to use wit and trickery to defeat Freakshow, then in possession of the Reality Gauntlet
Defeated Pariah Dark, (arguably) the most powerful Ghost of all time

Edge: Danny Phantom. High school student one moment, half-ghost superhero the next; Danny-boy here’s been taking down ghosts, Eldritch Abominations and even the occasional pesky bully all at the tender age of FOURTEEN. But he wasn’t always this super-slick superhero. IN FACT-

Deadpool: Yo, Danny Fenton was just fourteen, when his parents built a very strange machine, which was designed to view a world unseen-

Edge: NO! We are NOT rapping out Danny’s bio, Wade... As catchy as that theme song IS... anyway, Danny Fenton was never a NORMAL kid. His parents – Jack and Maddie Fenton – were, in fact, ghost hunters with a hi-tech laboratory that would make Jimmy Neutron go green with envy and a... giant emergency OP center on its roof... equipped with a blimp... ghost shield and a... spoiled ham...?

Deadpool: HO-LY CRAP that is frigging awesome! Why can’t WE build a giant ghost emergency OP center on our roof?! And where do they get the MONEY for that kind of stuff?!

Edge: I dunno... probably inheritance. But Danny’s life changed forever when an accident n the Fenton Portal – a prototype gateway to the realm of all spirits, the Ghost Zone – infused his molecular structure with ectoplasm, granting him the ability to transform himself into a ghostly state with amazing superpowers! After his day, Danny strove to stop all the ghosts crossing into Amity Park and capture them within the Fenton Thermos containment device.

Deadpool: All while, of course, trying to hide this information from the mundane population that remained unaware of ghosts being real, dealing with Flash Thompson rip-off bullies and hiding his secret from his parents especially, with the help of his two best friends and older sister.

Edge: Some of Danny’s physical skills, in fact, are able to be used even when he is in his human form. Thanks to his mutation, Danny’s physical body is extremely durable to many hit and blows that would cause severe, even lethal, pain to a teenager. His human form can also tap into a certain extent of his ghost form’s agility, speed and reflexes; putting him on par with a skilled athlete.

Deadpool: He also has a healing factor, not as good as yours truly of course, that enables him to recover from wounds faster than most teenage boys would. Does this work with limbs...? Doubt it, it was never shown at any point during the series if limb regeneration was out of his limits or not... too “graphic” for a kid’s cartoon was their excuse.

HUMAN PHYSICALITY
Enhanced Reflexes
Enhanced Agility
Enhanced Speed
Enhanced Durability
On par with a skilled athlete
Healing Factor

Deadpool: But THAT is nothing compared to the physical abilities of his Ghost Form! When going ghost, Danny is capable of pressing between ten to thirty tons, even managing to throw a dragon around and rip reinforced titanium with little effort! His ghost tissue and bones – why his ghost form would HAVE bone and tissue, I do not know, so don’t ask – is much more durable to damage than human tissue... again, kind of makes no sense that he HAS bones and tissue in his ghost form, if you ask me... and has taken severe beatdowns from powerful enemies, and stood up from ‘em, ready to carry on fighting, quite a lot.

Edge: In his ghost form, Danny is also capable of flight, his fastest speeds being clocked at around about 112mph. THAT is around the same speed of the highest fixed speed of most Japanese domestic market cars; an impressive feat for a fourteen year old ghost boy. His agility, reflexes and speed also enhance to superhuman-level, and his healing factor works even faster. He also has a superhuman-level equilibrium, which enables him to adjust his body into virtually any position flawlessly.

Deadpool: ...Any positions, eh? Heheh... NICE! Bet that comes in handy when he and his little Goth girlfriend are home alone with the lights out...

Edge: Danny’s stamina has also improved drastically: his ghost form producing little to no fatigue toxins, enabling him to fight for several hours without the need of rest, until fatigue toxins finally manage to kick in. He can balance himself on a scythe and a rope at great height, and can even walk on walls as if they were just part of the floor.

(Spider-Man: HEY! Wall-crawling’s my schtick! You start spinning a web and I’ll sue!)

Deadpool: And finally, Danny has the ability to become intangible – making him immune to pretty much every attack... Oh, the dirty things I’d do if I had THAT... Downside is the power requires quite a lot of concentration to control.

Edge: And you cannot concentrate if your life DEPENDED on it.

Deadpool: Hey, can to-OOH, SPOILED HAM! I can use this for my new emergency OP center!

GHOST FORM
Superhuman Reflexes
- Able to perform several advanced acrobatic techniques
Superhuman Equilibrium
- Able to flawlessly enter any body position
Superhuman Strength
- Able to press up to 30 tons
Superhuman Speed
Flight
- Top speed: 112mph / 180kmph
Superhuman Durability
- Denser bones and tissue, more durable to damage
Superhuman Stamina
- Ectoplasm-mutated body produces less fatigue toxins
Intangibility

Edge: Danny’s primary form of long-range attack is through discharging streams of bright green ectoplasm called his “ghost rays”. On a rough power level of ghost rays, Danny’s seem to be at the weakest level, but that doesn’t mean they are ineffective at all, oh no! With his anger, he is able to shoot stronger, white bursts of ghost rays; and even his green blasts have enough concussive force to blow a ghost flying backwards and severely injure a regular human!

Deadpool: And Danny has several variations of the attack. He can channel it into his fists to enhance the power of his physical attacks, create energy balls in a variety of different nifty sizes, waves of energy, explosive discs (copied from Vlad Plasmius, might I add), energy rings and a massive two-handed blast of ectoplasm in full Dragon Ball Z-style glory, capable of vaporizing a ghost it hits with ease and destroying the wide area around it! Goku would be proud of this kid!

GHOST RAYS
Green and white ectoplasmic blasts
Powerful concussive force
Several derivatives
- Ecto-Energy Strike: channelling ectoplasm into his fists to enhance physical attacks
- Ecto-Energy Ball: spheres of ectoplasm of various sizes
- Ecto-Energy Wave: a powerful wave of ectoplasm
- Explosive Energy Disk: copied off of Vlad Plasmius; an explosive disc of ectoplasmic energy
- Explosive Rings: large rings of volatile ectoplasm
- Super Ghost Ray: a Kamehameha-style ghost ray capable of vaporization and area destruction

Edge: Danny can also use his ectoplasm manipulation in various different ways. By concentrating ectoplasm into his hands, he can cut through objects as hard as steel with a karate chop! He can also release large amounts of ectoplasmic energy to create the Repulsion Field, which knocks back foes in close proximity and is most often used when Danny is surrounded.

Deadpool: Danny can also create a variety of shields using his ectoplasm, ranging from smaller round or square shields that can block smaller attacks to full domes capable of holding off the most powerful of bombardments. And ectoplasm isn’t the ONLY form of attacking Danny’s got in his undead body!

ECTOPLASM MANIPULATION
Enhanced Cutting Power
Repulsion Field
- Powerful repulsion attack
- Used most when Danny s surrounded
Shields
- Ranges in size and strength

Deadpool: In contrast to his fiery adversary, Danny has the ability of cyro... cryo... Cairo...

Edge: Cryokinesis.

Deadpool: Whatever. To say it simply, Danny can manipulate and generate ice-cold energy; shooting it out of his hands or eyes and turns his eyes a pale-blue when used. Examples of this cryokinesis’ attacks include exploding snowballs, cold energy shields, a freezing touch, weapons construction and the Ghost Sense – the subconscious use of his cryokinesis to exhale a pale-blue mist when ghosts are nearby.

CRYOKINESIS
Ice Manipulation
- Optical Beams
- Exploding Snowballs
- Cold Energy Shields
- Freezing Touch
- Weapon Constructs
Ghost Sense
- Subconsciously detects ghostly presences

Edge: But all of this PALES in comparison to the destructive force of Danny’s ultimate attack... the Ghostly Wail. A supersonic screech, projected in the form of pure ecto-energy, which can not only inflict massive amounts of damage to ghosts, but also humans and tangible matter. It can not only knock enemies back, but also bend metal, shatter glass, paralyze ghosts, destroy weaker ghosts entirely and most likely deafen you quicker than a death metal concert.

(Danny exhales the “Ghostly Wail”)

Deadpool: WHAT? I-I CAN’T HEAR YOU; I GOT DEAFENED FASTER THAN I WAS AT THAT DEATH METAL CONCERT!

Edge: The Ghostly Wail has two major problems, however. One, it is useless against giant monsters of stone... I... don’t get this, as the attack can bend metal, but whatever... and second, it severely drains Danny of most of his ghostly energy, converting him back to his less powerful human form, suffering from damaged vocal cords and extreme fatigue.

Deadpool: REMIND ME NOT TO VOTE FOR HIM ON AMERICAN IDOL!

GHOSTLY WAIL
Danny’s ultimate attack
Supersonic screech, projected and enhanced through pure ecto-energy
Damages ghosts, humans and tangible items
- Can bend metal
- Shatter glass
- Paralyze ghosts and destroy weaker ghosts
- Deafens
Useless against giant rock monsters
Drains large amounts of energy

Edge: Despite his vast power levels and impressive arsenal of skills, Danny is by no means the perfect hero. He is cocky and, like most teenage superheroes, graduated with honours from the Spider-Man Academy of Battle Taunts. Meaning, in other words, Danny likes to get chatty with an opponent; which can either work out in making said opponent lose their cool and attacking recklessly, giving him an open weakness he can exploit...

Deadpool: OR they lose their cool, decide to stop holding back and start kicking his ass all over the place. It’s a two-way street.

Edge: He also requires a lot of concentration to use some of his abilities, thus he needs to fight as his own pace. For example, regarding intangibility, it has been shown that if he doesn’t keep his focused maintained, even mundane objects will be able to hurt him.

Deadpool: And, alas, like all good things in the universe... Super Sonic, Starman Mario, Wasp of the Avengers in a bikini... even his ghost form has a limit. If he gets beaten too heavily, or over-exerts himself physically and mentally, he will revert back to his weaker, fleshier human form. And, in a Death Battle, you DON’T want to end up a weak, fleshy powerless human. Especially not when facing off against a giant, fire-breathing lizard and all that crap.

Edge: Despite the challenges Danny has faced, he has always managed to find a way to ultimately prevail in his battles to protect not only Amity Park, but the entire human world. Through sheer will, an unstoppable determination and indomitable spirit, he has managed to defeat some of the most powerful ghosts in his universe, including his own future self the “Ultimate Enemy” Dan Phantom and the Ghost King himself Pariah Dark. As the ultimate testament to his spirit and will, he managed to unite the entire Ghost Zone – friend and foe alike – to assist him in making the Earth intangible, to save it and its population from a ghost-resistant asteroid.

Deadpool: And if that doesn’t make him a badass in your eyes... then you’re just dumb.

(Danny: I’m going ghost!)

. . .

JAKE LONG
Aliases: American Dragon, Am-Drag, Dragonfire
Age: 14
Height: 5’5’’ (Human); around 7’3’’ (Dragon)
Weight: 135lb (Human); around 320lb (Dragon)
Species: Halfa (½ Human; ½ Dragon)
Occupation: High school student; Superhero
First appearance: American Dragon: Jake Long Episode 1 – “Old School Training” (2005)

FEATS
Took down the Huntsclan, magical creature hunters led by the second most dangerous villain of the magical realm
Has defeated countless powerful beings, including the Gorgons, the Jersey Devil and the Krylock Demon
Has won favour with many powerful figures in the Magical World
Defeated the Dark Dragon—the Number One Most Dangerous Threat to the Magical World, and the first Evil Dragon

Deadpool: He’s cool; he’s hot like a frozen sun! He’s young and fast, he’s the chosen one! Yeah people, we’re not braggin’... he’s the American Dragon!

Edge: What did I say about the theme songs?! Anyway... Jake Long is the grandson of the retired Chinese Dragon, Luong Lao Shi, who inherited the dormant dragon genes of his mother’s ancestry. At the mere age of thirteen, these genes fully awakened; resulting in Jake beginning his training as Lao Shi’s student and the protector of New York’s magical population; becoming the very first American Dragon. All while, of course, trying to hide this information from the mundane population that remained unaware of magical creatures being real, dealing with Flash Thompson rip-off bullies and hiding his secret from his father in particular, with the help of his two best friends and little sister.

Deadpool: Gee, why does THAT sound familiar? Oh, and don’t forget also working on his budding career as a professional skateboarder and rapper... which means he’s about as “professional” as John Cena.

Edge: Still better than Vanilla Ice, if you ask me. In his dragon form, Jake possesses the ability of flight through the use of strong and manoeuvrable wings, which he can use to both fly out of the way of assaults using, or whack opponents back via, usually through creating a small gust. His highest flight speed has been clocked at 179 mph. However, as this is his ONLY clocked speed, it is possible that he might be able to go even faster. Also a gifted acrobat, even in human form, Jake has superhuman reflexes and agility at his disposal; capable of performing somersaults, back-flips and many other acrobatics, which prove useful in a combat situation.

Deadpool: In his dragon form, Jake can lift an amount of weight from anywhere between 5 to 25 tons and has the potential to lift EVEN MORE when under stress or greatly angered. Talk about working under pressure... Dragons also utilize a sort of infrared vision, not only giving them the ability to see for longer distances, but also in the dark. Dragon ears are NOTORIOUSLY sensitive, in more ways than one as you will learn, my dear readers, and can identify singular sounds even amongst the loudest racket of sound and distractions with enough concentration.

Edge: Jake’s dragon form also possesses a variety of body parts that have been adapted and evolved as weapons. His claws have been proven capable enough to rip through solid concrete, and even pick locks—GOD, I wish I had those back when I was playing Resident Evil... bloody fetch quests and those damn doors...

Deadpool: Jake’s also got razor-sharp fangs, that let him crunch through steel... Talk about an iron-rich diet! This dragon’s got a bite to back up his bark, alright!

Edge: Jake’s dragon form is covered by extremely-durable, heat-resistant scales, which enables him to become virtually fireproof, allows him to endure severe beatdowns that would kill the average human, such as being slammed through multiple brick walls and falling from extreme heights, as well as even prevent most sharp weapons from cutting it; with a few exceptions of the REALLY sharp weapons. Also, there are a few spots that his scale armor doesn’t protect, but we’ll talk more about that when we get to that point...

Deadpool: Jakey-boy’s also got himself some pretty flexible body parts. His tongue can be lengthened to grab and hold items, or even tickle an enemy; and his tail is highly prehensile, acting almost like a third arm with a similar level of strength and its excellent length, manoeuvrability and balance... He could kick back on the couch and use his tail to grab some chips from the kitchen, and not even need to get off his ass to do it! How awesome is THAT?! ...Maybe I’d still have my old job if I had such a-

Edge: I doubt it.

DRAGON FORM
Superhuman Strength
- Can lift up to 25 tons
- Able to lift even more weight when angered or stressed
Superhuman Speed
Flight
- Top clocked speed: 179 mph / 288kmph
Enhanced Reflexes
Enhanced Agility
- Able to perform several advanced acrobatic techniques
Dragon Scales
- Fireproof
- Extremely durable to lethal force
- Much harder to cut through than human tissue
Enhanced/Infrared Vision
Enhanced Hearing
Claws
Fangs
Long Tongue
Prehensile Tail

Edge: Like all dragons, when things get tough, Jake knows JUST how to turn up the heat with the most iconic ability of any dragon – pyrokinesis. With it, he possesses the natural ability to breathe out fire at will, usually in the form of a constant stream or concentrated fireballs. And, judging by the fact these flames are a deep-to-clean orange color, this means that they pack a temperature of about twenty-two hundred degrees Fahrenheit.

Deadpool: He can even rapidly breathe out fireballs to transform himself into a draconic, fire-blasting machine gun of ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION! Ahem... relating to this, Jake can even handle and shape his fire without harming himself at all; most often to handle and aim his fireballs with a more accurate aim, but it has other practical uses.

PYROKINESIS
Average Temperature: 2200 °F (1200 °C)
Fire Breath
- Can be fired as a continuous stream or fireball
- Rapid-Fire Fireballs
Able to shape and alter flames

Deadpool: The final noteworthy ability of Jake’s is perhaps, in some ways, his most useful and underused – the Doppelganger Technique

Edge: The Doppelganger Technique uses Jake’s own chi to create one, or even more, temporary copies of himself, used defensively to either distract or deceive an enemy; but also have their combat uses. The downside, however, is that – in using his own life energy to create these clones – the more he creates, the weaker the clones, and ultimately Jake himself, will become.

Deadpool: There’s also the problem of what KIND of chi it comes from. If a clone is created with positive chi, it is good and will obey the orders and commands of the original; however, if made with negative chi, it will develop independence and often become evil, disobeying its commander... which makes me now understand why it is rarely used.

DOPPELGANGER TECHNIQUE
Chi Technique
Defensive Technique
- Distraction/Deception Purposes
Creates clones of the user, using their own life energy
- Positive Chi: Obedient; good; perform the commands of the original
- Negative Chi: Independent; evil; will go against their creator

Edge: While Dragons are among the most powerful magical creatures in Jake’s world, they do possess a few crippling weaknesses. Their underbelly, which Jake often has exposed due to his bipedal nature, is much softer than his scale armor, making it easy to penetrate or inflict severe damage and trauma to; and they have a spot behind their left ear that is so delicate that, if it is struck, it is an instant kill.

Deadpool: Dragons also have a weakness to magic and Sphinx Hair, however Danny would have neither, so this isn’t that huge a factor in the battle... and we are covering it for no apparent reason, other than to alert guys who ever wish to write future Death Battles involving him. Yay redundancy!

Edge: As the first true draconic protector of the U.S.A.’s magical population, Jake has proven himself time and time again as a very capable young dragon, in spite of his youth. He has defeated many powerful magical creatures, some with experience that has spanned over centuries beyond Jake’s, and has even defeated the Dark Dragon—the number one most dangerous threat to the magical and mortal realms. He has gone through heartbreak, betrayal, near-death experiences a-plenty, and the consequences that his own actions have caused many a time, but has always managed to come out on top and prevail.

Deadpool: Jake Long—packing the heat, and laying down the beat, in the name of good ol’ America.

(Jake: Dragon up!)

. . .

Deadpool: Well, we’ve been dragon it on for a little while, and came close to giving up the ghost for a bit, but we managed to finally get this prelude up. And soon, we will end this debate ONCE and for all!

Edge: But, bad puns aside, we have an announcement. This Death Battle will, in fact, be a TWO-FOR-ONE package and we will be presenting to you a very special fight alongside this one. So stay tuned, for as well as bringing you the thrilling conclusion of Jake vs. Danny, we’ll be orchestrating a showdown between two of media’s greatest masters-of-arms... in a DEATH BATTLE!
I do not own either of these characters. Danny Phantom is the creation of Butch Hartman, and belongs to Nintendo; while American Dragon: Jake Long is the property of the Walt Disney Corporation.

Your two cents on which of these warriors will emerge triumphant? Will Danny's ghostly powers be too much for the American Dragon to handle? Or will the heat Jake Long is packing bee too much for the Ghost Boy to bear?

A bit late to comment, I know, but... In the ADJL episode "A Ghost Story" we learn that dragons - while in dragon form - can physically interact with intangible ghosts (this includes all of a dragon's magical abilities, such as fire breath), so Danny's intangibility wouldn't allow him any advantages save to more quickly move through the ground and buildings. For that same reason, Danny's overshadowing technique likely wouldn't work either, since it relies on him using his intangibility to enter the target's body. Oh, and from the events of that episode, Jake would have familiarity with the most common ghost powers (flight, intangibility, etc), though obviously not the more exotic ones like the ghostly wail.
